--  Why Newport???  --
Isn’t it obvious? No? Oh. That would explain why everyone keeps asking.

Well, you’ve come to the right place...
There isn't a simple answer.  As much as we tried to create one.  Jared has begun telling Laura's friends and family that he is from New England, but that won't fly until he can convincingly say 'talk' and 'dog' as 'tahk' and 'dahg' instead of 'tawk' and 'dawg.'  Oh, and his preference in baseball teams and presidential candidates doesn't help either... Laura has had more success painting herself as a born-and-bred Rhode Islander to Jared's side, largely due to her authentic pale skin.  Still, it seems a bit inadequate.
First, the practical.  We looked.  And looked.  And looked.  And depending on which Rosenberg you believe, we ultimately checked out 28-30 possible venues in Baltimore, Annapolis, and the Eastern Shore.  This picture, taken in a lobby of one of the venues during 'The Search,' sums up the mood:

Nothing worked.  We had many constraints due to the size of the guest list, in addition to difficult date constraints as a result of Jewish requirements and other logistics.   Perhaps just as important as logistics, though, nothing felt right.
On to Newport!  No one is quite sure how it was suggested, but it certainly was out of desperation and frustration with the Maryland prospects.  Nevertheless, the more we researched, the more we knew it was what we wanted.  We had made a quick trip a year before, and fell in love with the area (and of course joked about getting married there).  The more 'realistic' Newport became, the more excited we were.  It logistically worked, and felt right!
Bottom Line:  We wanted something different.  Something special.  A unique weekend to share with our friends and family.  We believe the special atmosphere of Newport - one of America's premier wedding destinations for over 200 years - will make for a perfect weekend and the perfect start to a lifetime together.
Alternate Explanation: Laura is from Maryland.  Jared is from New Jersey.  They met in DC.  Laura went to NYC, and Jared briefly followed.  Jared returned to DC, and Laura briefly followed.  Now they live in Philadelphia.  Where else to marry but in Newport??  (have a headache yet?)
